Social and Medical Issues
Question One
Depression in society is not always a medical issue but could be the result of a social environment, in which the disconnection is so much to the extent of exposing people to the mental health issues. According to David Karp (1996), depression is a mental health issue that reflects a breakdown in society, dependence on medication, and a community in which modernism determines most human activities. Therefore, most of the challenges associated with the mental health challenge are directly related to development, and as people develop their environments further, so does the challenges that could ultimately increase the prevalence of mental health issues such as depression.
One of the possible theories that could explain this position would be the labelling theory, in which people receive labels for their contribution to society.
