We learned about how the family is our “primary agent” of socialization, but that our peers become a bigger influence on our behavior as we grow older. PROMPT:

For this question, I want you to think back to a time where you violated a norm (and maybe even endured a negative sanction!) that had been taught to you by your family because you were trying to comply with the competing norms of your peer group. Be sure to explain what happened, and use the incident to illustrate the concepts of the impact of your agents of socialization on your conformity. What level of conformity were you engaging in–compliance, identification, or internalization?
