The Chinese Immigrants in the United States
The United States has been believed to be the land of opportunities since it was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492. For this reason, different groups began to migrate into America to exploit the economic opportunities the region presented. Among these immigrants were the Chinese, whose movement into the U.S. began in the mid-19th century. Most of the Chinese immigrants during this period were male laborers who were looking for jobs. This is because their migration was driven by the high poverty levels in China, which forced some residents to move to foreign nations to look for jobs. Therefore, some of them ended up working in the gold mines to earn income. Also, some of them worked in the construction of the railroad. The reason most of the Chinese worked in these areas was because they did not have the skills and knowledge to work in the technical areas.
