South America
Part 2
The two Andean countries that can be similarly divided into three distinctive regions are Colombia and Chile. In each country, the Andes Mountains form the middle region of each country and have a population that is predominantly Mestizos. To the west there are hills and a coastal plain populated predominantly by Amerindians, who are generally less impoverished. To the east, there are hill-lands descending to the Amazon Basin. There the predominant population is also Amerindian.
