Speech to Inform
Description: For this assignment, you will prepare a speech to inform and an outline. Objectives:
- Engage in the first six steps of preparing a speech, including selecting a topic, analyzing your audience, researching your topic, collecting supporting materials, developing main points, and organizing your speech materials. • Practice speech preparation steps seven through nine which are wording a speech, constructing a conclusion and introduction, and rehearsing your speech. • Demonstrate oral communication proficiency with an informative speech.
Instructions:
For this assignment, students will prepare and submit a speech outline and speech video on one of the following topics: 1. Effective communication vs. miscommunication in social media and tips for positive interpersonal interactions 2. Nonverbal communication in patient/provider care: Does it impact quality of care? 3. Share advice on any class topic with future classmates who will be taking our 1310 course. Think about it as a “message in a bottle” to future students. 4. Remember to connect your observations and experiences to a scholarly source like our textbook.
Please use the following template for your outline:
- Introduction 1. Explain the topic you chose and why 2. Analyze your audience. Who is the target audience for this speech (think about age, gender, race, ethnicity, etc.)
- Body of Speech 1. Main ideas (you can incorporate a few of these) 1. Supporting details (you should have multiple lines here) 2. Supporting material with citations (you should have a few lines here) 3. Conclusions 4. References
Please use the outline as your guide for you 3-5 minute recorded presentation in which the audience can see you in professional, but comfortable, clothes from the waist up in order to demonstrate hand gestures, body movements, and your face for eye contact.
If for any reason you cannot to do a presentation, please write a 4-5 page essay in which you clearly address all the elements and directions of this assignment. Be sure to include descriptions of gestures, body movements, inflections, etc. in parenthesis throughout the paper as if you were conducting a speech.
