State Legislatures. Pick a state in the US and talk about its government structure, composition, demographics and etc.

State Legislatures

Students are to a state (out of 50) other than New Jersey. Accordingly students are to then write a report on that states legislature and include information about the structure, composition, demographics, when it is in session, and whatever pertinent and/or interesting information. The summary report must be at least 2 pages in length and well written with citations.

Refer to Rubric and Common Errors to Avoid documents.

Students must cite in APA format with in-text citations and a reference page.

Students should limit their resources to scholarly sites ( .edu, .gov, or .org ) journal articles, or books.

Assignments must be typed, 12 point font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, approximately 2-3 pages in length.

Submissions should be in a form of an attachment as either word (doc or docx) rich text (rtf) or pdf.

The establishment of the Alabama legislature occurred back in 1818. Following the foundation of the legislature, the Alabama constitution was later passed in the following year together with the Alabama Enabling Act. The passage of the states constitution led to the development of the Alabama General Assembly which was deemed to be the state’s legislature (Sands, 1953). In the 1860s, massive changes led to the transformation of the state government following the liberation of African-Americans who had been enslaved. Various amendments were carried out to ensure that the African-Americans were granted the right to vote as well as citizenship rights (Sands, 1953).
