PURPOSE:
The purpose of this assignment is to explore a critical concept in nursing. The student will be able to demonstrate application of information literacy and ability to utilize resources (library, writing center, SmartThinking, located within the Tutor Source tab under Course Home, APA resources, Turnitin, and others) through literature search and writing the paper.

“Testing a pain self-management intervention by exploring reduction of analgesics’ side effects in cancer outpatients and the involvement of family caregivers: a study protocol (PEINCA-FAM)” by Sabine Valenta, Rebecca Spirig, Christine Miaskowski, Kathrin Zaugg and Elizabeth Spichiger.
According to the article, pain is one of the most frequent and distressing symptoms that cancer patients experience. As such, patients rely on analgesics to relieve pain that, in turn, increase the pain burden. Increased number of patients has led to homes becoming primary care setting for cancer patients.
