Summary

In 1970, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Healthcare Act (NIOSH) was enacted. The major role of this act is to identify work-related hazards and create methods of controlling such hazards. NIOSH identifies the health conditions workers go through in their respective workplaces. Most of the textile workers in the US contracted brown lung disease. NIOSH conducted medical research on working conditions and provided recommendations on things that needed change. In the US, more than 250 workers die from silicosis, a serious lung disease.  Many workers suffer from work-related chronic disease. Some might even contract cancer.
