List View Forum: Interpersonal Trust in the World Assignment
The World Values Survey polls people from different countries on issues that range from perceptions about the economy to perceptions about their personal lives. For the purposes of understanding civic engagement and civil society, we can look at the statistics for how much people in different countries tend to trust others outside their immediate circles.
To do this, follow the instructions below:
Go to the following link, which provides a platform to analyze online information from the survey.
http://www.worldvaluessurvey. org/WVSOnline.jsp
Click on the 2010-2014 tab located at the left of the map.
Once there, click on four countries that you’d like to compare and click next at the top right.
In the next screen scroll down and click on the question V24. This will show you people’s responses to the question
“Generally speaking, would you say that most people can be trusted or that you need to be very careful in dealing with people?”
You’ll see a table comparing the people in each country who responded that “most people can be trusted” or that “you need to be very careful about people”.
