This is an Arabic word that means base or the foundation. Al Qaeda is a Sunni Islamic multinational organisation which causes terror attacks on other nations. It is composed of jihadist militants. Al Qaeda was formed in the year 1988 by Osama Bin Laden, who was the leader of the group, Abdulla Azzam, who was his deputy, and several other Arabic volunteers who fought very hard against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s (Lia, 2007).
