“The Relationship Between Language and Thinking”
It seems obvious that our words should reflect our thinking, but much of the time it doesn’t work out well. Think of two examples from your life or something you have read that show this. Describe them and explain how each illustrates one of the concepts from this week’s chapter, such as a misunderstanding of intent, vagueness, multiple meanings, euphemism, etc. (You can pick any two concepts from the chapter.) Finally, tell us if this has made you think more about how you express yourself in words.
The Relationship between Language and Thinking
It has often been suggested that our words reflect the manner in which we think. However, this is not always the case specifically due to the role that language plays in developing various forms of thinking. There are many examples from my life that have demonstrated this situations. The first example is when I was explaining to an individual how ISIS has developed strict regulations in Syria for the people. The individual I was chatting with was a British citizen. As I was describing the manipulative laws that have been developed by ISIS, he kept exclaiming ‘wonderful’.
