writing English 1
Part #1
As a follow-up to last week’s lecture + to continue working on thesis statements + rhetorical situations for Essay #2, you’ll be asked to consider a topic that can be researched. Then, identify a potential thesis statement for a 3-6 page argumentative essay (meaning, the thesis should have a stance) + possible rhetorical situation (purpose, audience, context) based on that thesis.
No research is required, simply your critical thinking.
7.5 points total; responses to peers are optional.
Part #2
1. Using the same article you chose for Essay #1 + #2, please identify the following:
The main claim of the article/thesis
One possible counterargument for that claim.
2. Respond to one peer with a rebuttal for their counterargument.
I’ve started this Wiki with an example of how to add your argument’s claim, a possible counterargument, and rebuttal to that counterargument. However, you will only fill in the first two columns for your article, then add a rebuttal later.
Total Point: 7.5 (5 for argument + counterargument post; 2.5 for peer response with rebuttal)
Part #3
1. Find your peer group thread, the same as from Preview Week.
2. Reply to my post within that thread, and attach your Essay #2 rough draft.
After the rough draft deadline has passed, you may begin peer review. To determine whose drafts to review, please look at the reply directly above and below your own in the thread. If you submitted first, one of the drafts you’re responsible for reviewing is the last draft submitted (and vice versa).
Note two deadlines for this discussion board!
Wk2: Rough draft
Wk3: Two peer reviews
