Research Paper: Tentative Thesis and MLA–Styled Works Cited Page with your Primary and Secondary Sources
(Please take notice that once you select a literary approach–Marxist theory, CRT, psychological theory, gender theory, feminist theory, you need to specify which concepts within that theory you will be using to make your argument about the primary texts. See my example below.
1) Students are required to write a thesis-driven Research Paper of 6-8 pages, with in-text citations plus a Works Cited page, following MLA documentation guidelines.
2) Please pick three or more of the short stories or poems or one longer drama piece (Shakespeare’s Othello) assigned in this class as your primary work/s and apply one of the following critical approaches: Marxist, Gender, Critical Race, Mythological, Psychoanalytical. Please review the link in Canvas regarding the difference between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources: Link (Links to an external site.).
3) Students are encouraged to expand Essay Two, into the research paper, or you can start fresh with new text/s and/or a different literary approach.
4) You must use a minimum of 3 scholarly** sources accessed through LAMC databases such as EBSCOhost or AcademicFile One in your research.

II. Literary Approach to be applied to Texts:
Psychoanalytic Theory, specifically the concepts of the id, ego, and superego
III. Thesis statement:
The speakers in these three works experience conflict between their id, ego, and superego resulting in damaging interpersonal relations.
