.There are many
similarities and difference when a nurse is preforming a pediatric and adult assessment. The similarities are as follows: Vital signs (respirations, temperature, heart rate, oxygen saturation), physical assessment, weight, height, developmental stage, abuse, ENT, milestones, car seat safety, drowning, andskin assessment. The differences with the assessments are that typically the blood pressure is not takenon exams, children will always have height and head circumference measured where an adult will not always that the height taken. The development stage should be addressed so we can properly care for both the adult and child. Abuse should be addressed for both but for adults the nurse should also ask about drug and alcohol abuse. Another difference is “During early adulthood, individuals may be focused on safe-sex methods, birth control, and may seek out committed romantic relationships” (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Typically, with a child the nurse could use simple terms such as tummy or bottom. By showing the child on a doll or bear and allowing the child to touch the instrumentsthe nurse will be using such as a stethoscope.
