Throughout American history, the events of triumph and tragedy occur in such unexpected ways that render the political environment vulnerable. In his book, give me Liberty, Foner explains the history of America since the 1600s up to 2001 with a set of events that stood out to be significant over the period. In the chapter, the author talks about “from triumph to tragedy, 1989-2001” which is a symbolically put across word meaning that despite all the achievements in the 80s and 90s, there were also challenges expected in the new century (Foner, 2014).
