Various factors determine whether one should call 9-1-1 or not. One of the times a person can call 9-1-1 is when there is a fire breakout. 9-1-1 respond quickly and prevent the fire from spreading rapidly and causing more destruction. During fire break out, individuals are advised 9-1-1 even if they can put out the fire on their own. Another factor determining when to call 9-1-1 is during a medical emergency. These include chest pain, severe burns, poisoning, drowning and other medical problems that are serious (Smelyansky, 2011).
