Experimental Project
Critical Thinking Assignment Pt 2 – Experimental Study – 120 pts
A. Introduction – 20 pts
1. Statement of the problem (Why does this study need to be done?)
2. Importance of the study (How would this study fix the problem?)
B. Title of the Study – 40 pts
This portion of the assignment should have already been completed, but must still be included in the final assignment. Fill in your title below. Remember that the first two blanks are your IV then DV and the third blank is the group of people you are interested in studying. Remember that there are no differences in your sample population at the beginning of your study. It would only be due to the treatment that you give them that would create any possible differences. Come up with a variable that you can control to see if it affects the other variable that you will be measured at the end of the study. Remember that if this study was actually going to be carried out, it would use statistical analysis. That means it will have to have at least 200 people in it. You need to think about how you will measure(operationally define) each of your variables. Plan what type of test or measurement will you use that will give you a score or number because you will be asked about it soon. If your title is not correct and in this format, this section will receive no points.[If your title varies in the population blank, but was approved by me, then that is fine.]

Independent Variable Dependent Variable Population
C. Method – 20pts
1. Participants – demographic information – age, region of the country, sex, race, etc… Utilizing a statistical analysis means it will have to have a very large sample size (at least 200 to thousands – tell me why that is the case ????
2. How you will operationally define the IV and the DV (how you will measure them).
3. Procedures – Describe how you will carry out the study in enough detail so that a friend you read it to (or me) would know how to do it. (how long you will run it and why)
D. Expectations – 20pts
1. What outcome might you expect and why?
2. Why might that outcome not occur?
a. What confounding variables might interfere?
b. What might you have done wrong?
c. Why may you not have thought of?
E. Limitations of the Study – 20pts
1. If you are only collecting subjects in our local area, could that mean that people in other areas of the country may have had different outcomes?
2. Was the study long enough to truly find out if there was an effect?
3. ???
