Sociology of sports has come a long way since 1967 after becoming an integrated textbook focusing on sociological analysis of sports as a social institution. Sports had been viewed as non-academic activity and the one that had no additional value to people. Sports was underestimated in the institutions and people who did it as a course were considered as time wasters.
