Website Assessment
Scenario
We use websites every day for a variety of reasons. Sometimes we’re doing mundane things like paying a utility or credit card bill. Sometimes we’re searching for information on relationship advice, fixing a garbage disposal, or how to know if our pets are sick. Other times we’re browsing for our own personal enjoyment, like playing video games, reading fan fiction, or watching highlights from last night’s big game.
When we go online, we’re often visiting the same websites. We become so used to their layout and navigation that we tend to not notice whether they’re actually good or not because we’re so focused on the content (recipes, celebrity gossip, local events, etc.). But, this course is all about analyzing the visual media we consume. With that in mind, you’re going to assess a website that you visit frequently. It doesn’t need to be your favorite or least favorite. Note: For this discussion, you CAN’T choose social media platforms.
Directions:
In your initial post, respond to the following:
- Select a website that you visit frequently. Include a link to the website in your post.
- The website must not be lewd, crude, or hateful. If it is, your initial post may get deleted by your instructor, and you may earn a zero for this discussion forum.
- How are aesthetics used to attract and engage the target audience to the website?
- What’s one change to the aesthetics that you’d suggest so that the website would resonate better with the target audience?
- Discuss at least one example of how similarity and/or proximity could be used better to help make the website easier to understand or navigate
