Question One
The developments discussed brought about positive changes which were long overdue. The prison cells were few, and it led to many deaths because of the congestion. Many people considered to be weak got victimised in the cells. There was no separation of inmates; they were all housed in one room including the children. There was poor sanitation, and the living conditions were inhumane. Diseases spread amongst the inmates, and people began realising the importance of separating the inmates based on gender and severity of the crime.
