The Ryan White Care Act
The level of knowledge on HIV/AIDS in the United States and the world at large was not always as high as it is in the contemporary society. In the early years of the disease’ discovery, cases were rampant as people did not know much about its control. Ryan White was among the first victims diagnosed of the disease as a 13 year old, and due to financial constraints in accessing the medication to control the opportunistic diseases associated with the deficiency. Ultimately, the teenager died three years later and the challenges faced in the society, and strain experienced by his mother prompted him becoming the face of the campaign against HIV/AIDS leading up to the passing of the Ryan White Comprehensive Aids Resources Emergency Act. As the name suggests, the act was passed as a form of response to rising cases of people in poverty needing financial assistance in an effort to deal with HIV.
