When I toured the Nissan plant in Canton, MS, I saw signs in different places in the factory that said “KAIZEN.” What does that mean, and why would Nissan want its workers to be reminded of it?
Kaizen
Kaizen is a management philosophy that developed from Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement throughout all the aspects of the company or life. When the practices of Kaizen are applied at the workplace, there is a high probability that all functions of the business can be improved and higher productivity can be achieved. Some of the activities that may be improved include marketing, research and development, accounting, inventory management, and manufacturing processes. The system aims at eliminating any form of waste that may be present be in in resource allocation or time allocation.
