Self-service shops that allow customers to self-select and pick different types of products arranged on shelves is commonly described as a supermarket (Lu & Reardon, 2018). Notably, the shelves are classified in accordance with the types of goods mostly food and non-food items being displayed at different positions in the store. Moreover, supermarkets are situated in residential areas for marketing and sales purposes. However, supermarkets in America have been opened in major towns for convenience purposes. Particularly, many parent and pioneer companies open a chain of supermarkets in different locations in a bid to increase opportunities for economies of scale. More so, the chain stores buy their goods from producing companies in order to cut financial and purchase costs (Monteiro, Cannon,  Moubarac, Levy, Louzada & Jaime, 2018).
