After the 9/11 attack on the United States, it was perceived that Al-Qaeda was only attacking the United States and that the attacks were motivated by geopolitical disputes between the United States and the militia group. However, this was only the beginning of extremist ideologies by Al-Qaeda and other extremist religious groups that have risen such as ISIS and Boko Haram. The aim of this paper is to address some of the major reasons why Al-Qaeda holds such extremist views that lead them to perpetrate terror attacks on civilians in different countries around the world.
