In the past few weeks, I have been eagerly looking forward to the nursing residency program that I am about to embark on. There are several expectations that I hope will be fulfilled through the course of the program. The first expectation is to gain various competencies and experiences that will allow me to be a contributor to the field and career. The competencies are divided into three major areas including leadership, patient outcomes, and professional development. Through enhanced leadership skills, I intend to become an integral part of the nursing field and oversee changes in the field that will ensure that nurses are cherished as critical individuals who dictate the realization of various healthcare outcomes. Since time in memorial, nurses have never been appreciated for their roles in the healthcare system until recently.
