There has always been a great debate revolving around the use of marijuana with various people, groups and institutions having varying opinions. While it has increasingly been prescribed and used for a wide range of medical reasons such as pain relief, its use remains to be a big issue of controversy. In the United States, marijuana is categorized as a Class I controlled substance, which means that is illegal under the federal law since the drugs classified into this category are considered to have a high abuse potential, no any conventional therapeutic use as well as lack of acceptable safety. Personally, I think marijuana should not be legalized due to its harmful health and mental health effects. I believe there is a good reason why marijuana was made illegal in the first place and from my view, the only reason other drugs such as tobacco and alcohol are legal is just because they are so deeply imbedded in the society such that it not possible to discard them.
