For this paper you will choose/identify a safety issue that you have encountered or are aware of in the workplace setting. Explore the depth and cost of the safety issue. What is currently being done at your institution, if anything, to address the safety issue? What might you contribute to address this safety issue? Research into the safety issue is necessary to identify the impact on your institution and the possible effects on society. Examples; falls and fall risk/rates, infections, medication errors, sentinel events, HIPPA violations, Electronic Record Systems (EHRs), etc. This research might require you to talk to the Chief Nursing Officer or whomever is in charge of the area of safety issue interest. You will identify a safety issue at your workplace from one of the six Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) categories:
PATIENT-CENTERED CARE
TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION
EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE (EBP)
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (QI)
SAFETY
INFORMATICS
Your final paper will incorporate the QSEN standards for BSN students. You might also find the Agency for Healthcare Research (AHRQ) Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) useful for research and tools for writing your paper. Quality and Safety are the two main focuses of this paper. Please include an educational roll out plan and evaluation criteria.
The paper should include the following: 4 to 5-pages in length excluding cover/title page, abstract of 150 words or less, and reference page.
