How did the South feel after the loss in the Civil War and the changes brought by the end of slavery?
Civil wars in the South rendered many African American homeless, refugees, separated from their families during the oppression years and left without a plan on what to do. Men had been weakened by consistent wars. The fighters strayed home with several of them injured. The southern government in many places was totally destroyed and hence ceased to exist. The cities were in shamble while homes were greatly destroyed. Their familiar social order was gone. The federal government was imposing their conception of reconstruction, whereby soldiers were enforcing new laws and the joined them.
