At the beginning of the novel Falling Man, Don DeLillo describes the tragic bombing which occurred in the United States at the Twin Towers in which the news was received with shock. He narrates how the streets suddenly changed into clouds of ash and smoke. In his narration, he depicts how the victims of the attack immediately reacted to the falling rubble and glass. Those who had jackets covered their heads to prevent being hurt by the flying glasses and stones from the falling building. DeLillo is able to summon up the occurrence of the event in precise sentences which offer a clear depiction of the terror incident.
