QUESTION 1

In this week’s text discussion, mood and anxiety are explored. Although there are many levels of mood disorders, I am going to open the discussion to just two of the topics – anxiety and depression. Be aware that I want this to be more than dealing with test anxiety or situational depression (loss of loved one or initial diagnosis of a serious medical condition). While these are problematic, I want you to go a little deeper.

1 – Do you know anyone with diagnosable Anxiety?
Generalized Anxiety Disorder – PTSD – Specific Phobias
2 – Do you know anyone with Clinical Depression?
Mild, Moderate, or Severe
3 – How has it impacted their lives and the lives of their family?
4 – What was the assessment process that led to diagnosis? Is there a treatment plan in place?

QUESTION 2.

Attached are three case studies of individuals who are struggling with their lives. You are to choose one of the case studies:

1 – what would be 1-2 assessments you would use to help formulate a treatment plan, based on this week’s reading assignment and why?
2 – what key indicators in the narrative give you some ideas about the direction of treatment necessary (note, you are not diagnosing yet)
3 – what is your general diagnosis of the mood disorder this client is presenting with?
4 – based on the results of your assessments, the key indicators, and two sessions with your chosen client – predict what forms of treatment might be necessary to address the needs of this client.

QUESTION 3.

Goal: The goal of this assignment is for you to make a connection between something we discussed in class and something you have witnessed in a movie or TV show.

Reasoning: In pop culture, you will often see psychological terms mentioned and discussed. Sometimes, this is done accurately, and other times there are major inaccuracies that will go unnoticed by a typical layperson.

Assignment: I want you to take a concept we discussed in class and relate it to something in pop culture! Be sure to mention several key things:

What is the concept mentioned in the movie or TV show? Please be sure to give a conceptual definition (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) of the concept as we discussed it in class (do not simply copy the definition from somewhere else). An example may also be helpful!
What is the movie or TV show that discusses the concept? Be sure to be clear and specific so that I know exactly where you heard or saw this concept being mentioned. Also, briefly give some background as to the nature of the scene: What was going on and why was it relevant for them to discuss this concept?
Now comes the fun part: Did they get the concept correct or did they misrepresent it? Be as critical as you can be here! Note that they may get some aspects of it correct and others incorrect. Also, note that they often only mention a sentence or two about a particular concept to move the story along. That’s fine! Just break down what they say and think about it for yourself: Based on what you learned in class, does this seem accurate?
Lastly, if they made a mistake in their summary, how could they have fixed it? What could they have said differently to make their statements more accurate?
Thoughts: The point of this assignment is to bridge the classroom with pop culture. Additionally, I want you to analyze the particular scene critically to determine its accuracy. This is a good exercise, as it requires you to think about the concept carefully!

Length: This assignment should be 1-2 pages double-spaced with 12 point Times New Roman font.

Grading Criteria: For this assignment, the quality of your writing will be important (as with all written assignments). This means you should proofread your written work carefully to check for typos, grammatical errors, run-on or incomplete sentences, contractions, and so on and fix them before submitting. Additionally, I will also grade this assignment based upon the accuracy of your writing. How well do you describe the concept? How well do you describe the movie or TV show scene? And lastly, your analysis will be important with respect to whether or not the movie or TV show mentioned the concept accurately.

(I HAVE ATTACHED A POWER POINT OF THE CLASS SO YOU CAN PICK A TOPIC IN IT. IT IS NAMED CHAPTER 2.

QUESTION 1

Diagnosable anxiety and clinical depression

People suffering from anxiety disorders more often have intense fear, worries, and fears about things that happen in day to day lives. The fear and the worries last for minutes, and in some intensified situations, they can lead to panic attacks.  In most cases, anxiety becomes a disorder when it repeatedly occurs and increases with time.
