Introduction

I have always known archeology as a way of discovering the past, and every time the topic comes to my mind or hear about it, I always think of the ancient discoveries of people and artifacts. I think of things such as the skulls of Homo sapiens, mummies, pyramids and mountains. I have learned a great deal about archeology while studying this course and it has helped me to grow intellectually because you find yourself asking questions about the basic assumptions of human life that people take for granted. For example, are people still evolving, and if they are, how are they evolving? Studying this course has enabled me to understand broadly what archaeology is and what it isn’t, the significance of cultural preservation, civic engagement, myths about archaeology, human civilizations, and the origin of humanness and cultural behavior.
