Devil in the White City Part 4 Questions and Answers.
Introducing Frank Geyer pp. 339-346
- Holmes up to this point did not keep trophies. Why did he keep the children’s letters to their mother?
Holmes despite being a psychologically disturbed criminal does pretend to be a normal guardian to the three girls. He collects their letters and promises to send them only to hold on to them. Nonetheless, Geyer insists that Holmes does not keep survivors but the Pietzel children’s case presents a unique scenario. The girls are excited about the trip and in their letters to their mother they describe their trip with Holmes. Therefore, to avoid the scrutiny of their mother Holmes fails to dispatch the letters. Alternatively, Holmes held back the letters to avoid leaving a trail of where he went during the trip to the supposed hiding point of Pietzel.
